One of the Brilliant Minds of his generation: John Forbes Nash

“ I have made the most important discovery of my career, the most important discovery of my life: it is only in the mysterious equation of love that any logical reasons can be found.” - John Forbes Nash

John F. Nash was born on June 13, 1928 in Bluefield, in America. His father, John, was an electrical engineer. His mother,

Virginia was English and Latin teacher before she got married. He had just one sister, Martha who is younger than John

loved reading encyclopedias. After finishing high school John Nash entered Carnegie Tech. with full a scholarship in

Pittsburgh to study chemical engineering. However, he had difficulties with quantitative analysis in chemistry. So he

switched his department and became a mathematics student. He was really successful at mathematics so he took M.S.

instead of B.S.

After graduating, John Nash had been offered to enter Harvard and Princeton University. He chose Princeton because the

school gave him scholarship. During his education, he took some classes related to economics. Then he focused on game

theory in particular. He wanted to write his Ph. D. thesis on game theory. However, it could not acceptable as a thesis in

the mathematics department. However, there are some events in game theory which were related to mathematics and

accepted as thesis. Then, John sent his works to Harvard University. He was at mathematics faculty at M.I.T. His advisor

and Professor R.J. Duffin wrote just one sentence to his letter of recommendation:“he is a genius”.

In 1956, John Nash got married Alicia, she graduated as a physics major from M.I.T. However, when his wife was

pregnant, his mental illness, schizophrenia, originated in 1959. After spending so many times, he worked on and taught
